Alamo, you just lost a customer.

I’ve been known to travel on business… and have rented cars quite a bit. And rented from Alamo more than any other company…. well, that won’t be happening any more, and here’s why.

Tonight I got an e-mail from Alamo stating that they’re changing the terms of service for using their reservations website. So I clicked in to read the new terms and found this:

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT, UNLESS PROHIBITED BY LAW, YOUR USE AND/OR CONTINUED USE OF THIS WEB SITE SIGNIFIES YOUR EXPRESS CONSENT THAT INFORMATION MAY BE TRANSFERRED TO OR STORED ON SERVERS AND PROCESSED OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY OF YOUR RESIDENCE. PLEASE ALSO BE AWARE THAT THE PRIVACY LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES OR OTHER COUNTRIES WHERE INFORMATION MAY BE STORED MAY NOT BE AS COMPREHENSIVE OR OFFER AS MUCH PROTECTION AS THE LAWS OF OTHER COUNTRIES.

I don’t want my information on foreign servers, and, as a US-based systems engineer I’m damned sick and tired of technical jobs being outsourced to foreign countries (usually India – I have nothing against India, or it’s people, but this is getting ridiculous) … and I won’t do business with companies that I know are doing that … so Alamo … bye bye. There are plenty of other companies I can rent cars from, and I will.
